Aboutreika made headlines in 2008 for not forgetting the besieged people of Gaza in the mid of joy and glory. Scoring his first goal in the 2008 African Cup, Aboutreika, who plays as a playmaker and attacking midfielder, revealed a white t-shirt with "Sympathy for Gaza" in English and Arabic.
During the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations, and after scoring a goal, he revealed a T- shirt bearing the slogan "We Sacrifice Ourselves for You Prophet Muhammad" in response to the blasphemous Danish cartoons.
In football, Aboutreika's list of honors extends to a record of about 17 international and national titles. His popularity in African and Arab countries extended to reach the world as he was named the World's most Popular Footballer amongst active Players in 2007 (IFFHS).
Impact of Achievement:
Those two incidents made international headlines and won him praise for his support of humanitarian and Muslim causes. His role as a famous athlete was immediately recognized and was accordingly chosen to score much dearer goals in Humanitarian work.
Aboutreika was selected as a UNDP Goodwill Ambassador as well as the World Food Program Ambassador Against Hunger.
In Egypt, he took part in a fund-raising ads campaign for building the Children Cancer Hospital "57357," and led a nationwide blood donation campaign.
